Notes before you decide

Short articles to help you think through your next step.

Questions worth asking any agency

Ask who you will talk with, whether birth parents pay anything, and what the timeline looks like. Ask what happens if you change your mind before signing. A good agency answers plainly.

What a first meeting is for

Bring your questions, and bring someone you trust if you want to. The counselor should talk about parenting as well as adoption. You should leave knowing you are not locked in.

If you are hoping to adopt, the first meeting is where you hear about profiles, travel, and paperwork. You should know the big picture before you move forward.

Older children deserve the same care

An adoption plan for a toddler or a school-age child still needs a loving family and a plan everyone understands. Tell us the ages you are open to—we support young and older children.
